Dovalee is a small independent publisher. Right now we make one book: Your Cycle, Made Simple, a plain-language paperback about how the monthly cycle changes mood, sleep, energy, appetite and the body, written with women in their late 30s and 40s in mind.
Why this book exists
Thousands of women write the same thing online, month after month. They feel like themselves for about two weeks, and like someone else for the rest. Many count it in days: around ten days before a period, something shifts. Many have been told it is stress, or their age, or nothing to worry about. Most were never taught what actually happens across the month, so they assumed the problem was them.
When they go looking for answers, they mostly find two things: books of 300 to 500 pages that take a long time to get to the point, and feeds full of seed cycling, phase workouts and supplements, often sold by the person giving the advice. One woman on Reddit put it this way: "Finding good info in the sea of trash and shallow advice is like looking for a needle in a haystack."
So we set out to make the book that sits between the two. Short, plain, and honest about what is known and what is not.
How the book works
It follows the month as a countdown to the next period: 10, 7, 5, 3 and 1 days before. That is how women already talk about it, and it holds up for cycles shorter or longer than the textbook 28 days, because the second half of the cycle is the steadier half and it ends at the next period. The book also says plainly where the countdown stops working.
Each feeling, from crying over small things to rage, broken sleep, hunger and exhaustion, gets the same short card: what many women feel, why it happens in plain words, what helps, and when it is worth seeing a doctor. Every claim carries a label that says how strong the evidence is, from solid to myth, and the sources are listed and dated in the back.
There is a part on what changes from the late 30s while periods are still regular, a chapter for partners with a page to tear out and hand over, paper tracker pages, and a one-page sheet to take to a doctor's appointment. It is under 200 pages, because nobody needs another 400.
What it will not do
- No woo: no moon phases, inner seasons, seed cycling or "feminine energy".
- No cycle syncing: no workouts or meal plans by phase. The evidence behind them is thin, and the book says so.
- No supplements, no affiliate links and no product recommendations.
- No diagnosing. The book explains, and it says clearly when something is worth taking to a doctor.
- No name-calling. The cycle can turn the volume up on feelings. It does not make a woman's reasons any less real.
How we sell it
One printed book, shipped with tracking. A person reads every email sent to info@dovalee.com. Thirty days from delivery to decide: if it is not for you, email us and we refund you in full. We never ask for your cycle dates, your symptoms or any health information, and the book needs no app and no account.
